Discussions with other students were a great sounding board for developing my own creative approaches and expert advice from the teachers opened new horizons. Significantly.
When I was looking for the theme for my final project, I was looking for a story. I am convinced that there is not one artist in the world whose work does not have a story behind it. Helps to create the bond and meaning.
In the end, I decided to focus on something that is everywhere and is globally understood... like symbols. Symbols like sun, moon, heart, plus, minus, horoscope... But give it my own twist, contemporary and personal.
This is how the original SYMBOLS series was born.
And that was the foundation for yet another step forward, the INSIDE OR OUT? collection.
It takes something seemingly not that attractive, taboo even, and explores its possibilitties as an ornament. As ever, I used the graphics approach of utilizing basic colours and simplified bold shapes to convey the feeling of prints.
I would say the pivotal engine of my work is the effort to explore the relationship, connections, conflicts and symbiosis between traditional jewellery and its potential on the interdisciplinary edge of encountering other visual arts forms.
